The company has asked for the CRC to be extended as it seems that thousands of UK businesses haven’t registered yet. The deadline is today, October 5th 2010.
The official definition for the CRC is: “UK’s mandatory climate change and energy saving scheme. The scheme started in April 2010 and is administered by the Environment Agency. It is central to the UK’s strategy for improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, as set out in the Climate Change Act 2008. It has been designed to raise awareness in large organisations, especially at senior level, and encourage changes in behaviour and infrastructure.” (Source: Dept. of Energy and Climate Change).
British Gas has asked for an extension of 2 months to help businesses register and to improve and reinforce the communication campaign around the CRC, which would help gain visibility and therefore boosts registrations.
Today, only 65% of expected businesses have joined the Commitment scheme
